Deep Purple was another huge eye opener for us. When we got into heavy rock, we didn't really appreciate the style or the sound of the 70's. So it took a while for us to discover the brilliance of Purple. We had, like most people, heard Smoke On The Water. But the song that really kicked us in the head was a song called "Bloodsucker". The drumming was extremely groovy, like nothing we had heard within rock before. It was quite heavy, even if it was played with a hammond organ and had a early 70's sound. And the screaming of Ian Gillan was like REALLY impressive. It was like "how could anybody hit notes like that?"
All the members of Purple had a huge influence on us; the crazy furious playing of Ritchie Blackmore, the mighty synths and keyboards of Jon Lord, the screams of Ian Gillan, the jazzy speed-drumming of Ian Paice and not to mention the heavy bass sound of Roger Glover. Cheers, TJ
