Getaway Rock Festival 2013 - Day 3, 4 & 5

8/21/2013

Friday morning. A nice soft hotel bed and a nice tasty hotel breakfast, talkin' about last night's events.
We decided not to go to the festival area that day since the only band we wanted to see was Exodus, and a taxi ride fee for one band was simply not worth it. We decided to go shopping and hang out in the city instead.

I bought some vinyl records, a record player, an amazing cool Darth Vader bag and booked a tattoo appointment for the next day.
I've been wanting a tattoo for years, but never known what or where, until I saw Gamma Ray's logo.
I thought it was so nice and cool, and that it would make a perfect tattoo on the back of my right shoulder. No turning back now, it was going to happen.
Picture
I knew this logo would make a great tattoo the first time I saw it :D
We also got a cool rock game called "Rock Science" which we played for hours after a nice dinner at the hotel.
I also go to open some of my birthday gifts, since my upcoming birthday would be spent in a car driving home for 12+ hours. A nice and chill day, re-loaded for a new festival day.

My super sexy hunk ;)
Saturday mornin'. Dead tired. Too excited about the tattoo. Will it hurt? How will it turn out? Will I whimp out?
Not much of an appetite either. Just get ready and get it over with!

The tattoo chick was nice. She made the tattoo into the right size so all the details would turn out nice, and placed it on my shoulder. I didn't like where she placed it the first time, so she moved it, and then it was right where I've imagined.

It didn't hurt that much. Just sometimes, and the trick was not to think about what she was doing. I hate needles, and blood, so I think I did pretty well, and even TJ thought I was tough.

I had to keep the plastic on for three hours and then put some sort of balm on it. Kind of scary. I just wanted to do everything right, so it would turn out okay.

Inked for life :) Love how it turned out! :D Perfect size, place and motive :)
Then it was off to the festival area. In a studded leather jacket, a jeans studded with the Judas Priest logo, and a Judas Priest t-shirt, I was as heavy as I could get, and ready to rock.

The first band we saw was Dragonforce. They were really good, and the singer had a great voice.

Me enjoying Dragonforce :)
After Dragonforce we did some shopping. When your a metalhead and band t-shirts, vinyl records and all the cool stash you can imagine is gathered at one place, you go bananas! I bought seven (!!!) band t-shirts (Mötley Crüe x2, Dio, Skid Row, Whitesnake, Manowar and Deep Purple), six vinyl records (Helloween, Warlock, Magnum, Def Leppard, Vince Neil and Whitesnake), a Gamma Ray bracelet and a Deep Purple bandana. Heavy metal shopping heaven! :D:D:D

After having spent some serious dough, we saw a poster that Anvil were having a meet and greet session! Yay! We raced over and got in line. I got all three members' autographs and my picture taken with them.

Really cool to have met Anvil! TJ and I have seen their documentary "Anvil! The Story of Anvil", so we felt like we kinda knew them :p
Picture
TJ didn't get his picture taken with any of the guys from Anvil, but this waaay cooler anyway! :p
Then it was Deep Purple's turn on stage. They had asked to play a full set, so we got to enjoy one hour and forthyfive minutes of music magic. Purple is just so amazing! Every one of them are so talented and great. I loved every song, every solo - EVERYTHING! And I loved Roger Glover's bass solo! A huge inspiration to me :D
Picture
Ian Gillan was in a good mood and put on quite a show for us :)
Picture
All five magical members of one of the greatest bands ever! :D
We had to sit down after the show. My shoulders were aching, and we were hungry. The rain (which was pouring down right before and during the Purple show, with a side order of some thunder and lightning), was wearing off, so we could sit down and enjoy a juicy hamburger. I'm such a burger girl! I've lost track of how many I ate that weekend!

Anvil was the last band we saw before we took a cab back to the hotel. Anvil were awesome! And "Metal on Metal" kicked ass! The band got such a great response, the crowd was going wild for minutes after the show, but because of the strict schedule, they could not go back on stage. Bummer!
Picture
Metal on Metal! Hell yeah!!! \m/
Back at the hotel we did some packing before we hit the sack. I did not want the weekend to end! I definitely became a festival fan, and I'm hopin' for some great line-ups next summer!

Sunday, my birthday, was like I wrote earlier, spent in the car driving home for 12+ hours. We had pizza for lunch, hamburger from McDonald's for dinner, and coffee and chocolate for dessert. And metal music of course - lot's of it!

What can I say, if you love music, and are a dedicated metalhead, a long ride and shitty weather can't stop you! Leave your worries at home, enjoy the music and atmosphere, and let the good times roll!
