HobbitCon 3 - It Was An Adventure

5/28/2015

I realize this blog post is way overdue, and I got no reason for not posting it sooner, but never the less, I got the memories stored in my head and heart for maaany years to come!

I managed to talk my best friend into coming with me to Bonn, Germany to attend HobbitCon 3 in the beginning of April. And we had such a great time! It was so fun to be there; to see, hear and to feel the positive vibes among fans, actors and cosplayers. It was awesome!

We arrived late Thursday night on April the 2nd after a long day of travelling. The buss and plain rides went rather smooth, but we had some trouble once we came to Bonn. At the airport it took forever to get our
luggage, plus we were pulled aside by airport security, who scanned our bags and asked why we were in Germany. Then we got a taxi to take us to the hotel. The taxi driver had some trouble with the card terminal, and we didn't have any Euro, so we had to drive around and look for an ATM machine. The taxi driver was not pleased with all the extra driving and detours, but it wasn't our fault that the card terminal didn't work. But we eventually got to the hotel safe and sound, ready to get some sleep.

We spent Friday the 3d sightseeing. We walked all the way from our hotel to Maritim Hotel Bonn, which took a lot more time than 20 minutes, like the receptionist at our hotel said it would. We walked through a beautiful park. The weather was so nice, and we took a lot of pictures.

We had lunch at Maritim Hotel Bonn, checking out the hotel, and trying to spot any celebrities. We didn't have much luck, though we think we sat beside one actor who might have played a veeery small (and maybe invisible) part in either LOTR or The Hobbit.
Later we had dinner at a cozy restaurant called "Cartoon". Yes, we only went there because of the name ;) But the food was great and the service was good. I also treated myself to a drink at Happy Hour. And since I don't drink much, it didn''t take long before I got a buzz, ha, ha. We spent the rest of the evening relaxing in the hotel room with red wine, instagram and watching Lord of the Rings with all german audio. I tried to translate as I know most of the lines :p

Saturday the 4th of April. The big day! First day at HobbitCon! All excited, a little nervous and anxious to get started! We got ready for the convention, took a taxi to the hotel, and stood in a veeery long line to get registrated before we could enter "Middle Earth". So many people! Cosplayers and fangirls/boys, families and friends.

One of the first things we did after getting inside the covention was to have our picture taken with Graham McTavish (Dwalin).
I was so nervous when meeting Graham, I didn't know what to expect. But I managed to shake his hand and say "Nice to meet you", and he complimented me on my outfit. The photographer counted down "3-2-1", and at the very last second, I decided to do the "horns" in the picture, which luckily turned out okay. You can take the girl out of the metal, but not the metal out of the girl, ha, ha.

We spent the day wandering around looking at fandom merch and other pretty fantasy stuff, and we saw many of the actors when they were on stage answering questions and such.
We spotted a lot of great cosplayers, and what do you know, many of the actors too :) We didn't go and say hello or anything like that. We've all been asked to treat them "normal" so they could have a great time and enjoy the convention. No problem there; I might sound like a crazy fangirl, but I'm quite shy and would probably have made a fool of myself stuttering something completely meaningless, or something they've heard so many times before.

I made a new friend :)

Awesome Thranduil cosplay! :D
The day went by, and suddenly it was party time! :D We changed into our party outfits and went into the bar. The music was great as the DJ played so many old hits I grew up with. We had drinks and danced, watching the actors in the V.I.P. booth. It was so fun, and so surreal being so close to all the awesome actors from the films, which are so dear to me.

I met Luke Evans in the bar too. I was slightly drunk when I noticed him coming my way. I didn't want to bother him, and I though he would just pass me by, but then I blurted out "I love you as Bard!". He smiled, said "thank you" and shook my hand. And then he gave me a hug! Then I said "You are amazing", and he said "thank you" again and smiled his oh so sexy smile and left. That totally made my night (weekend - and days to come! OMG!)
I tell you, it was one happy fangirl drifting off to sleep that night!

Sunday the 5th, another fun day. We pretty much walked around and did what we did the day before; lookin' at merch, cosplayers and spotting the actors. Plus watching them on stage.
I was back and forth about having my picture taken with Luke Evans, but decided to do it. And I'm happy I did. I think the picture turned out pretty great. He was so sweet when he greeted me and made me relax right away :)

A couple of minutes before this picture was taken, Luke Evans almost bumped into me. He didn't know where to go after his photo session was over. He looked so cute and lost. I was just smiling, happy to have another close encounter with this hot and awesome actor.

I also had my picture taken with Ken Stott who plays Balin in The Hobbit. Balin and Dwalin are my favorite dwarves. Balin is so kind and wise, and Dwalin is just badass!
We attended two of three days of the HobbitCon, and believe me; you need time to get to take it all in! All the cool fans, cosplayers, positive atmosphere and the awesome stuff at the stands. And to see the great actors on stage. My favorite actor there was definitely Luke Evans. We saw him on stage both days, and his time on the panel was like therapy. So calm, fun and soothing, and such a positive human being. He is absolutely amazing. And when he sang!!! I can't wait to see him in "The Beauty and The Beast".

I will always cherish this awesome weekend at HobbitCon. It was a very fun adventure, and I hope to go to HobbitCon 4 next year. I highy recommend going to this event. It was very well organized, and the location was great. Two thumbs up!

There's no secret that I loooove The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, and that I want to be an immortal warrior elf, married to the gorgeous elven king Thranduil...
Before I attended HobbitCon 3 in the beginning of April, I had an outfit planned, made and tried on, which resulted in this photo shoot:

Thunderball Clothing: Dio Leather Biker Jacket

I've been drooling over Thunderball Clothing's jackets for such a long time, and when I saw this Dio jacket, I just had to buy it! Dio is one of the reasons why I am a metalhead, and this black and red studded leather jacket is just pure perfection. It fits like a glove, and I love the sleeves, which are kinda Dio-ish. I love the combo of black and red leather, and I can't wait to wear the holy diver out of it. Long live the king of rock n' roll \m/

Spent most of the month chilling in the freakin' heat. My hair was still red, we decorated the bedroom, I bought my first Christian Benner custom tee, and we started our vacation.

I don't remember anything special happening in November. I created my @lotr_forever_always instagram account, and started writing fanfiction, crushing HARD on Thranduil...

December

My mom and dad came for a visit. We did some Christmas shopping, watched a lot of movies and celebrated Christmas. I didn't instagram much @rockeprinsessen, but I posted a lot @lotr_forever_always. I saw The Hobbit - The Battle of the Five Armies twice at the movies, and Thranduil was pretty much on my mind all the time that month too...
